Industrial noise - Environmental Permitting
In order to operate, major industrial, energy, waste and manufacturing installations and processes require an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) in England and Wales and the Control (PPC) Regulations in Scotland. Operators must control pollution and ensure that “appropriate measures” are taken to prevent pollution, or to prevent and minimize noise pollution through the application of “best available techniques” (BAT).
In applying for a permit, it will often be necessary to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the relevant environment agency that the requirements of the EPR will be met i.e. noise is adequately controlled and significant pollution is avoided. In so doing, it will be necessary to carry out a risk assessment or, in most cases, a detailed noise impact assessment in accordance with the noise and vibration management guidance for environmental permits produced jointly by the various agencies.
Our services in relation to environmental permitting include:
- Desktop risk assessments;
- Detailed noise and vibration assessment;
- EPR permit and planning applications;
- Technical reports;
- Specification of site management and controls;
- Compliance monitoring; and
- Appeals.
