Vibration
Vibration
The possible sources of vibration which are likely to be experienced in the built environment include piling and other construction activities, roads, railways (both surface and underground) and mechanical plant / equipment. Its perception can sometimes give rise to annoyance or interference with work activities, or, at higher levels, may cause concern as to the potential for cosmetic or structural building damage. In some situations vibration can also cause interference with the use of vibration sensitive equipment.

The ARM Acoustics team has extensive experience in the measurement and assessment of vibration and has also undertaken government funded research studies into its measurement and effects and contributed to a number of papers and publications. We are able to provide the following services:
  • Provision of vibration surveys;
  • Scoping studies to assess potential risks associated with construction or other types of vibration;
  • Measurement of ground-borne and structural vibration from specific sources;
  • Assessment of the effects of vibration, in terms of human exposure , building response or vibration sensitive equipment; and
  • Guidance on the physical measures which may be used to mitigate vibration.
