Planning & Noise

Planning Policy Guidance 24: Planning and Noise (PPG 24) aims to provide advice on how the planning system can be used to minimise the adverse impact of noise without placing unreasonable restrictions on development or adding unduly to the administrative burdens of business. Although PPG24 is best known for the introduction of Noise Exposure Categories for road, rail and aircraft noise, it also sets out general principles for the control of noise.  Other assessment criteria and standards may also be used, e.g. British Standard BS4142 which may be used to assess industrial noise and is often employed by planning authorities to define standards for different sources, such as fixed plant. Larger schemes may require full environmental impact assessments to be undertaken in accordance with the Town and Country Planning Act (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations.

Our considerable experience in undertaking such noise impact and planning assessments means that we will be able to deliver planning permissions and discharge of conditions for your scheme, though a process of detailed assessment and integrated design. We also have extensive experience of delivering noise and environmental impact assessments for large residential / commercial developments and transportation schemes.
